Arcade “Fries” Wins Grammy While Tweeps Show Confusion
February 15th, 2011 § 6 Comments
Indie-Rock band, Arcade Fire, took home the Grammy for ‘Album of the Year’ at Sunday night’s award show. This was a surprising moment, considering the band was up against more widely known acts like Lady Gaga and Eminem. However, perhaps the best part of the win, seemed to be the chat on Twitter.
Both celeb tweeps and everyday tweeps took to Twitter questioning who Arcade Fire is. Or rather, who, some variation of the name, is. Everything from ‘RK Fire’ to ‘Arcade Fries’ was mentioned as the band’s name. Many people seemed to not recognize the band, despite their popularity.
As I decided to blog about this, just out of its hilariousness, someone had beat me to the punch. Enter this website. An all-in-one “Who the F$@# is Arcade Fire?” page showcasing the funniest tweets and video. The Twitter community never fails to bring the funny.
Arcade Fries. Ridiculous.
I watch the stinkin’ Grammy’s every year and this is the ONE year, I missed them. Very sad about that; watching their win and performances online is just not the same.
I didn’t really care for their performance for some reason, but definitely glad they won, especially because of who they were up against.
Great to see you bloggin again! Who the hell is Arcade Fire. I have never heard of them. Went and saw Ryan Bingham last night. Had never heard of him before the Grammys. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/02/grammy-awards-.html
He did a great show last night in Seattle.
Don’t worry, Greg. You’re not alone!
Its great to see that the Grammy governing body isn’t swayed by pop culture. When Arcade Fire won, I was really stoked for them and the Grammys. The integrity is still there!
I totally agree, Eric. It was refreshing to see true artists take home some awards. Even Esperanza Spalding’s win was great because she was virtually ‘an unknown’ in pop culture, but once you hear her music you can’t argue with her win.
